04/04/2017 - Uzbekistan-Russian Trade & Gazprom

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed 16 bilateral agreements worth $3.5 billion dollars during his visit to Moscow. The agreements come on the back of the ongoing positive discussions between the Uzbek government and Gazprom last month, where the two sides agreed terms for supplying Gazprom with natural gas for 5 years. Gazprom purchased 6.3billion cubic meters of gas from Uzbekistan last year, so it is likely to be a substantial deal. These economic agreements accompanied by Uzbek agreements with Kazakhstan are a hopeful sign that the new president is more supportive of closer regional relations.
